Woodzie Myrick

Woodzie Eugene Myrick Jr. age 70, of Cypress Inn, TN, went home to be with the Lord on June 12,2024.  Woodzie passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his children.

Throughout his life, Woodzie enjoyed fishing on the Tennessee River as a commercial fisherman and running the Riverside Fish Market, which he owned in Florence, AL. In 1984, Southern Living Magazine featured him in an article for his unique approach to catfishing by jugging, highlighting catfish as a new savory item on southern menus. After selling the fish market a few years later, Woodzie began his career as a supervisor at Manhattan Gunite, working in Texas and along the East Coast in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, and Boston, until he retired to the farm in Cypress Inn, TN.

Woodzie is survived by his loving caretaker, Susan (Myrick) Franks of Cypress Inn, TN; his daughters, Emily Myrick Stafford (husband Guy) of Lawrenceburg and Kalie Myrick Snipes (husband Waylon) of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren William Bryant and Sophie Annabeth Stafford, Shelby Kate Bearden, and step-grandchildren, Jalyn Iris and Robin Waverly Snipes. Additional survivors include siblings Linda Grimes (Jimmy), Frances Kennamore (Jerry), and Mary Broadfoot, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Woodzie shared a special bond with Paige and Daniel Richardson, who also survive him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Woodzie Eugene Myrick Sr., and wife Lena Mary Myrick of Cherokee, AL; mother Jennie Nell Byrd Myrick of Sheffield, AL.; daughter, Michshelle Lee Myrick; sisters, Delores Callye Myrick and Norma Jean Bullion: and brothers-in-law, Paul Bullion and Harry Broadfoot.

The family extends a special thankyou to the nurses and caregivers at Volunteer Hospice for their kindness and wonderful care.

 Celebration of Life memorial services will be held June 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Bates- Love Funeral and Cremation, LLC chapel.
