Mr. Waymond Lee “Cherokee” Thompson was born August 31, 1959 in Savannah, TN to the late James Elbert and Margaret Ann Scott Thompson. He worked for many years as a contract mail driver for the United States Postal Service. He will be fondly remembered for his love of collecting antiques, tinkering, spending time with family and his love to talk. Mr. Waymond was a cowboy at heart long before it was the popular thing to do. If you knew him very long, you know he was especially proud of his Native Indian Heritage. Mr. Thompson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was united on marriage to the former Reda Franks on July 11, 2021. Mr. Thompson passed from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon, TN making his stay in this life some 63 years, 7 months, and 20 days.
Survivors include his wife Reda Franks Thompson of Savannah, TN; four daughters, Jenniffer Thompson Gallo (Gary) of Millington, TN; Tabetha Thompson George (Michael) of Florence, AL; Heather Thompson Kelley (Dustin); Savannah Thompson Brown (Bruce); one son Thomas Andy Thompson (Holly) all of Waynesboro, TN; four step-daughters, Christy Johnson (Barry) of Mountain View, AR; Tonia McLin (Benny); Sonia Duncan (Clyde); and Ashley Mooneyhan (Jason) all of Savannah, TN; three brothers, Lynn Thompson (Deborah) of Columbia, TN; Robert Thompson (Sandy) of Savannah, TN; Blake Thompson (Miranda) of Culleoka, TN; one sister, Joann Thompson Throgmorton (David) of Waynesboro, TN; he is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth “Texx” Thompson; and a grandson, Carson Wayne Brown.
Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Forty-Eight Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Patrick Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery
Visitation with the Thompson family will be on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM all at Forty-Eight Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
