Ricky Walter Pickett was born October 28, 1952, in Waynesboro, TN to the late Walter Clarence and Mary Jack Eaves Pickett. Walter spent his early years enjoying motorcycles and hot rods. He was an avid outdoorsman. He hosted annual massive dove hunts that were still talked about to this day. He loved the woods and deer hunting, fishing, and arrowhead hunting.
Walter had his foot in many traits: real estate, farming, and land developer. When he put his mind to something, there was no turning back. He knew how to make a dollar, but he would tell you he never figured out how to keep it. He spent the latter part of his life, a full-time family man. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton. He loved his church family and enjoyed every time they met.
Walter loved people and loved to talk to people. He had so many friends. He loved to tell old stories, pull a good joke, share his many experiences, some of his mischievous troubles, or rowdy adventures.
However, he was the proudest of his family. He had his own chauffeur, private chef, house maid, open hotline, personal stylist, confider, caretaker, and best friend that he called Cindy. 48 years and many phases of life, they have walked through many valleys but shared some of life’s biggest blessings. The apple of his eye was his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed sitting in the front row at each dance recital and seeing updates of the RV park. He enjoyed spending time by the pool, cookouts, holidays, & Sunday dinners. One of his favorite pastimes was going through his phone calling each of them. He stayed in the loop of each of their lives and made each feel like they were his favorite. Walter loved cheering on the Lions so much, he spent his last night sitting front row, hollering for both teams! His son, two girls, and 11 grandchildren have a vast amount of memories and knowledge, but mostly love that he has provided in the last 72 years. He taught many lessons, but the greatest was to love your family and friends, it’s never too late to give your life to Jesus, and live life to the absolute fullest!
Survivors include his wife of 48 years and mother of his children, Cindy Pickett; one son, Walter Pickett, Jr. and wife Misti of Savannah, TN; two daughters, Michele Battles and husband Eric of Clifton, TN; Mandy Gobbell and husband Chad of Waynesboro, TN; one brother, Bobby Pickett and wife Charlene; Vicki Powell and husband Larry both of Savannah, TN; he is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Lauren Pickett, Carson Pickett, Ansley Pickett, McKenzie Alley, Wyatt Alley and wife Brylee, Hudson Battles, Laurabeth Battles, Mason Gobbell, Mabry Gobbell, Cambreia Gobbell, and Colton Gobbell.
In addition to his farther Walter Clarence Pickett Sr. and mother Mary Jack Eaves Pickett he is preceded in death by a brother Danny Pickett and niece Amy Jerrolds.
