Loyal Gene Risner was born September 12, 1953 in Waynesboro, TN. He is the son of the late Rubin and Myrtle Risner. Gene was raised in Collinwood, TN where he attended Collinwood Highschool. Gene was united in marriage to Betty Jean Reeves on July 14, 1973. Gene was also a member of Eastview Baptist Church.
Gene started working at a very young age working with his brother in Indiana. After returning home he worked various jobs. He worked at Murray Ohio for 30+ years until the company closed. He then went on to work at Hassell and Hughes until he retired.
Gene departed this world on March 31st, 2026 after a long battle with cancer at Maury Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Gene left behind a legacy of unconditional love. He lived a life of service, always putting the needs of his family and friends above his own. Gene was a man who worked tirelessly, asking for nothing in return, finding his joy in happiness of those he loved. Gene left this world leaving behind a world that is much quieter and far less interesting without him.
Gene was a person that was very outgoing, humorous and never met a stranger. He was known for his “no-nonsense” approach to life, Gene was never afraid to speak his mind. While his exterior was tough, his heart was of pure gold. He showed his love through his constant presence, hardworking nature and fierce devotion to his family.
Gene’s hobbies includes working on vehicles and working around the house and yard. He loved restoring his ’63 Ford Falcon with his beloved brother Junior and his loving wife Betty. He also loved watching old westerns, the NBA and boxing. He spent his time supporting his daughters in every aspect of life. He taught and pushed them to be the best versions of themselves. His greatest joy in life was his grandkids. He loved every second he had with them and would do anything for them. He was always so proud of all their accomplishments. Later in life, when his wife became ill, he devoted his time to taking care of her until she passed. Even though it was hard to continue on without her Gene fought for his family until the very end.
Those left to honor his memory includes his daughters, Kimberly Risner and Cassie Holt (Ronnie) of Collinwood, TN; grandchildren, Launa and Luke Holt, Elle Risner and Wyatt Stanton. His siblings Junior Risner (Kory) of Camden, TN; Jody Risner, Carroll Risner (Cindy) and Karen Risner all of Collinwood, TN; He is also survived by several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, Gene was reunited with the love of his life, Betty Jean. Brothers, Fay Risner, Wade Risner, James Risner and sister, Hazel Risner.
To honor Gene’s wishes, there will not be a public ceremony. He wanted everyone to remember him like he was. The family will have a private burial ceremony to reunite Gene and Betty at a later date.
