Larry Cecil Toungette, age 72 of Collinwood, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Larry was born November 23, 1951 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Ben and Etha Graves Toungette. After graduating from Summertown High School in 1969, he attended Hohewald State Area Vocational-Technical School where he met Kathy Gillis. The two were wed August 15, 1970, and made their life in Collinwood with their three children. Larry was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church and served several terms as a Sunday school teacher, where he enjoyed studying and sharing the Word. He was previously employed by Murray, Inc. in Lawrenceburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Toungette, and a brother, Randy Toungette.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Gillis Toungette of Collinwood; children, Brandon (Daphne) Toungette of Cape Town, South Africa, Beth Ross of Mount Pleasant, and Adam Toungette of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Ella Toungette and Silas Ross; brothers Kenneth Toungette of Lawrenceburg and James Perry (Susan) Toungette of Columbia, sister-in-law Betty Toungette of Lawrenceburg, and several nieces and nephews.
For the last 15 years of his life, Larry navigated the challenges of a progressive disease that tried to take many things from him, but what it never was his sense of humor and his hope and faith in his Savior and in a healing that was assured. His love for the Lord left an impression on his family, friends and others. And while he enjoyed life despite the struggles on this side of Heaven, we know that he is at peace walking with Jesus Christ and he will struggle no more. A beloved daddy and pawpaw, we are comforted that he can enjoy some ice cream and tinkering in Heaven until we are reunited.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21

Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Jeff Toungette officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
