Katie Skimehorne Obituary

Mrs. Katie “Sue” Stricklin Skimehorne was born June 17, 1938 to the late “James” Franklin Stricklin and Hester “Jewel” Weaver in Lutts,TN. She was united in marriage to Glen Skimehorne on August 22, 1959, to whom she would remain married for 64 years making Waynesboro, TN their home, they raised their family of which they were very proud.  Mrs. Skimehorne lived her life always mindful of her Lord and made worshiping him a prominent part of her life. She was a member of the 48 Creek Baptist Church in Waynesboro as well having attended the Mt. Hope Methodist Church in Waynesboro. During her lifetime, she worked in several different fields she worked for Shackelford Funeral Directors as a part time secretary for several years but during the latter stage of her working life she was employed by the Wayne County Middle School cafeteria. She loved seeing and interacting with the children she would encounter daily, making her and the children’s daily routine a little brighter.   In her leisure time she enjoyed collecting Pillsbury Doughboy cookie jars as well as other Pillsbury memorabilia and canning vegetables from the garden having several people request her “pickles” which was always a crowd favorite. She had a deep love for people, but children especially were close to her heart. She loved as she called it ‘Rocking and loving on babies”. Mrs. Skimehorne was deeply devoted to her family, community, and church family.  She was lovingly known as “Aunt Sue” by her nephews and nieces, she loved them all dearly and each had a special place in her heart. She was a very proud “Nannie” a title she was given by her first grandchild Trent. Her love whomever you were to her in her life was deeply felt by all who knew her, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were “the light of her world”. Her loss is one that will forever be felt by all who know her. Mrs. “Sue” Skimehorne passed from this life to be with her Lord at her home on May 31, 2024, making her stay on this earth some 85 years. 11 months and 14 days.

She is survived by her husband Glen Skimehorne; son James “David” Skimehorne and daughter Cheryl Darlean Holt husband (Jackie) all of Waynesboro, TN 4 grandchildren Trenton Pitts wife (Ann) of Donelson, TN, Jessie Rand, and husband (Trevor) of Gallatin, TN, Ethan Skimehorne wife (Amicka) of Waynesboro, TN and Tim Holt of Waynesboro, TN; 2 great-grandchildren Joe Barrett Pitts and Graham Rand; and sister Dorothy Stricklin Pollock.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Glendon Dale Skimehorne, sister Mary Evelyn Stricklin, daughter-in- law Linda K. Skimehorne, brothers James William “Billy” Stricklin Donald Ray Stricklin, sisters in law Emma Nola Stricklin, Mary Stricklin, brother -in-law Joe Pollock, grandparents George Washington Stricklin, Lizzie Virginia Perry Stricklin, Willam Henry Weaver and Lennie Beulah Hanback Weaver.

Services are to be held Monday June 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation. LLC with Tim Hanback and Greg Eaton officiating with burial following in the Waynesboro Memorial Gardens.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Mike Ray, Alan White, Danny Moore, Kyle Brewer, Jim Beavers, Nathan Duren, Kelvin Runions and Jamie Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Walker and Tommy Entrekin.

Visitation begins Sunday from 6:00 till 8:00 pm and Monday from 10:00 am till 2:00 service time all at Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation, LLC in Waynesboro.
