James Doyle Thompson was born November 21, 1943 in Collinwood, TN to the late Hershel and Violet Brewer Thompson. He worked for the Wayne County Highway Department for years and loved being outside running the road grader. In his free time, he spent most of his time on the golf course. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church on Eagle Creek and preached there for a number of years. Mr. Thompson departed this life on Sunday, February 22, 2026 in Waynesboro, TN making his stay in this life some 82 years, 3 months, and 1 day.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Ruth Thompson of Waynesboro, TN; two daughters, Tina Thompson; Jamie Thompson both of St. Louis, MO; three brothers, Drew Thompson; Charles Thompson; Larry Thompson; one sister, Ann Brown; three grandchildren, Brandon; Preston; Olivia and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Bill Thompson, Dexter Thompson, Jimmy Dale Thompson, Jerry Thompson, Coy Thompson, Bobby Thompson, and three sisters, Leta Joyce Thompson, Vera Jean Poyner, Kay Gum.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 beginning at 11:00 AM at Walker Cemetery with John Blackwell officiating.
