Gary Lynn Walker, 66, of Waynesboro, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024. Gary, also affectionately known as “G.W. or Snowman,” was born on January 20, 1958, to the late Sanders and Frankie Griffin Walker of Savannah, TN. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Wayne Walker. He was the grandson of the late AD and Alice Walker and Landous and Lela Griffin of Savannah, TN. Gary graduated from Frank Hughes High School in Clifton, TN, in 1976. He went on to begin a career in truck driving, which spanned over 48 years with various employers such as Harry Floyd Farms of Waynesboro, TN, Southeastern Carriers of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Pettus-McClain Trucking of Lawrenceburg, TN. He had 39 years of service with Pettus-McClain Trucking Company. He had numerous friendships with fellow truckers and many Tennessee Farmers Co-Ops employees throughout Middle Tennessee. He retired from truck driving in the summer of 2023 due to declining health. He was also a member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge, Chapter 102.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Walker, of 47 years, and one daughter, Dr. Amanda Walker of Dyersburg, TN. He is also survived by one Aunt, Maxine Love of Savannah, TN; three nieces, Melissa Ruth of Savannah, TN, Paige Davis of Sharon, TN, and Megan Littrell of Waynesboro,TN; two nephews, Robert Walker of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Shane Walker of Stafford, VA; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, February 01, 2024 from 11am until 1pm, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 01, 2024 at 1pm at Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro, TN with Casey Jones officiating. The family will have a private, closed service for the spreading of the ashes at a later time.
