Mr. Gary Wayne Mathis was born in Waynesboro, TN to the late James Herbert Mathis and Inez L. Skelton Mathis on April 22, 1953. Mr. Mathis worked for many years as a truck driver. He would deliver goods to many different places, making many friends throughout his travels. Gary held his belief in God very close to his heart as he was of the Methodist and Baptist faith. He enjoyed life but one of his favorite hobbies was watching the "Cowboy Channel" and tending cattle, but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family and dear friends. His greatest joy was his family and friends. Mr. Mathis passed from this life in Waynesboro, TN on July 27, 2024, making his stay on this earth some 71 years,3 months and 5 days.
Mr. Gary Mathis is survived by brother Bobby Mathis and wife Connie of Waynesboro, TN; his pride and joy great-niece Amanda Thompson and great-great- nephew Ben Tompson; nieces Shelia Daniel and husband Heath, Pam Mathis, Jennifer Mathis and Melissa Holmes and husband Guy; nephews Kyle Mathis, William Mathis and Mitch Horton and wife Charity; a host of great-great- nieces and nephews; step mother Clara Mathis; and special friends Barbara Gayle Reaves, Kelley Holly, Dwayne Burnett, Randall Hayes, Phil Horton, Eff, Tobe Townsend and Oaklynn Smith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers James Fay Mathis, Elvis Mathis and Rex Mathis and nephews Kevin Mathis and Robert Mathis.
Memorial Services will be Saturday August 10, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the 48 Creek Baptist Church.
Visitation will begin Saturday August 10, 2024 from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm at 48 Creek Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Waynesboro Memorial Gardens
