Mr. David Ernest Hatton was born June 27, 1943, in St. Louis MO to the union of his parents the late Mr. Ernest Franklin Hatton and Mrs. Evelyn Emma Trautwein Hatton. He spent his childhood in St. Louis playing football in high school graduating with the class of 1961. In his adult years he would choose the occupation in telephone network maintenance eventually becoming manager of his department and remained so until his retirement. He would move to Florida where he could enjoy many years playing his favorite sport “golf” a passion which he deeply loved. In his later years, he would meet and marry his wife Mrs. Carolyn Sassenrath and the two would move to her hometown Waynesboro, TN and they would make the area their home for the following eight years. He and his wife attended the Green River Baptist Church in Waynesboro. In his leisure time he and his wife enjoyed taking cruises to various locations throughout the world, a hobby he would boast of having taken over twenty in his lifetime. When at home, he developed a love for mowing his lawn having for the first time in his life. Mr. David Ernest Hatton passed from this life on March 10, 2026, in Waynesboro, TN making his stay on this earth some 82 years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Mrs. Carolyn Sassenrath in Waynesboro, TN; son Mike Hatton wife Jennifer of St. Louis, MO; grandson Andrew Hatton; step daughter Renee Maupin; siblings Joyce Gaugh, Ralph Hatton, Richard Hatton, Daniel Hatton and Nellie Sagehorn; brother in law Charlie Tatum wife Vickie; niece Jenna Lynch husband Chris; great nephews Turner Lynch and Deacon Lynch; as well as many other family members, friends and loved ones.
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday March 18, 2026 at 1:30 pm at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation chapel in Waynesboro, TN with Carey Franks officiating.
Committal service and burial with military honors will be held Tuesday March 24,2026 at 1130 am at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
