Clara Delores Poppell Turnbow Staggs was born August 29, 1943 in Sarasota, FL to the late Johnnie Belford and Mariam Lavonne Powell Poppell. She was an animal lover and especially loved her cats. Ms. Staggs loved to work in her flowers and especially loved hydrangeas. She loved to shop in Florence, where she was known to come home late and loved a good meal at Red Lobster. When she was able to travel, she loved the beach especially traveling to Apalachicola, FL. She owned an operated a boarding home for the disabled and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Staggs departed this life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 making her stay in this life some 80 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughters, Delores Ann Staggs; Vicki Prater (Red); Pamela Lavonne Turnbow Kilgore all of Waynesboro, TN; one brother, Dennis Van Poppell of Florida six grandchildren, Jeremy Kyle Staggs; Brooke Staggs Taylor (Zack); Kimberly Ann Ray Barnett; Erica Lea Ray Davis (Josh); Robert Lee Ray; Shelby Delores Whitt; eight great grandchildren, Hunter Kyle Staggs; Mackenzie Staggs Kelley; Brogan Barnett; Hadley Barnett; Kolt Barnett; Kash Davis; Harless Brooke Ray; Cecil Ridge Taylor; one great-great grandchild, Langston Kelley; she is also survived by a very special cousin Wanda Powell and a very special friend, Kay Haley and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Aaron Turnbow; an infant son, Tony Lee Turnbow; one brother, Belford Richard Poppell and one sister, Elizabeth Ann Poppell.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel with Steve Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynesboro Memorial Gardens.
