Billye Skelton Obituary

Billye Jean Skelton was born May 14, 1928, on Hardin’s Creek in Hardin County, Tennessee to the late, Farris and Mamie Christian Davis. She attended rural elementary schools and after graduation from Hardin County High School, moved to Waynesboro, Tennessee and worked as a trained LPN at Woods Hospital. There she met James Howard Skelton, married and they raised three daughters. For a number of years, she worked and helped manage Skelton Lumber Company which she loved. At the age of 75, she moved to Franklin, Tennessee where she enjoyed an active, friend filled life for 14 years before returning home to Waynesboro and residing at Boyd Cottages.  Billye was an excellent homemaker, talented seamstress and enjoyed planning and designing. Her award-winning biscuits were a specialty along with her family famous cornbread. She enjoyed a well-organized home, traveling, camping, horse shows and lunches with her beloved James Howard. Never one to worry, she met each challenge with strength and adaptability. Her life was one of decency and unwavering love and devotion to her family. She was adored and cherished and will be truly missed. She departed this life on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Nashville, TN.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughters, Sarah Skelton Warren (Phil) of Nashville, TN; Martha Skelton Kelly of Waynesboro, TN; one sister Mary Lewis Stricklin of Cypress Inn, TN; four grandchildren, Abby Cameron Ruddle (Steven); Catie Cameron Stewart (Jeremy); Hayden Kelly; Carson Kelly (Lauren); She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Landrie Kelly, Davis Ruddle, and McCully Ruddle.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Skelton Cameron and one sister, Dorothy Jerrolds.

Private Family Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM at Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Cary Crews officiating.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorial donations be given to County Road Animal Rescue.
